1919       Born on 27th October in Tokyo.
1942       Graduates from Tokyo lnstitute of Technology.
1946-49  Studies pottery under Hamada Shoji in Mashiko. 
1953  Builds his own studio adjacent to Hamada Shoji.
1954    Fires his kiln for the first time - first exhibit in Tokyo. 
1962  Receives price from Nihon Mingeikan, Tokyo.
1963  Three months of teaching and exhibiting in Canada and United States. 
Starts yearly exhibits at Matsuya Ginza Dept. Store, Tokyo.
1968  Teaches summer sessions at colleges in California, United States.
1971  Starts yearly exhibits at Hankyu Dept. Store, Osaka.
1974  One-man exhibit in Boston (Massachusetts), United States.
1977  First exhibition in Europe at the Kunstgewerbe Museum, Hamburg
1978  Teaches for 4 weeks at the Banff Art Center, Canada. Partecipates at show "Japanese Ceramics" at Hetjens Museum, Düsseldorf, Germany.
1979  Receives the Tochigi Prefecture cultural price for contribution to Japanese Folk-art.
1981  lnvited to exhibit at Höchst Memorial Museum, Frankfurt, Germany.
1982  Teaches and holds one-man exhibits in Canada.
1983 One-man exhibition at Gallery Fred Jahn, Munich, Germany.
1986  Exhibits at Liberty Dept. Store, London, United Kingdome.
1987 One-man exhibit at City Art Museum, Mannheim, Germany.
1989  One-man exhibit at City Art Museum, Munich, Germany.
1990  Commemorative exhibition at Seibu Art , Tokyo.
1991 One-man show at Gallery Besson, London, United Kingdom.
1992 Lectures at Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hawaii, United States.
1993 Exhibit of 201 Shimaoka-pieces of the Shimizu Masashi collection donated to the Tochigi Prefectual Museum of Fine Arts.
1996  Nominated as "Living National Treasure" (Ningen Kokuho) by the Japanese Governement.
1997 Commemorative exhibit at Hankyu Dept. Store, Osaka.
1998  Commemorative exhibit at Matsuya Ginza Dept. Store, Tokyo.
